Pulses have rapidly gained importance globally over the past decade. The Northern Pulse Growers Association works to ensure a strong and profitable future for the regions pulse growers. Programs and activities are made possible through the support of producers, stakeholders and industry partners. Our mission is promoting pulses through education activities, market development, and research coordination, providing the highest food and feed products to the consumer.

1
Why Plant Pulses
Planting pulses is a smart move for farmers—they naturally fix nitrogen in the soil, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers and boosting soil health for future crops. They're also drought-tolerant, cost-effective to grow, and in high demand thanks to the rising interest in plant-based proteins. With strong export markets and rotational benefits, pulses are a win for both the land and the bottom line.
2
Harvesting Tips
For a smooth pulse crop harvest, timing is everything—wait until most pods are mature and dry, but don’t delay too long or you risk shattering and loss. Harvest in the coolest part of the day to reduce seed damage, and adjust your combine settings to minimize cracking. Keep an eye on moisture levels—ideally around 13%—for optimal storage and quality.

Certified Seed Sowers
Having a list of certified seed sowers ensures farmers get high-quality, disease-free seed that meets strict standards for purity and performance. It helps protect yields, improves crop consistency, and reduces the risk of contamination or poor germination. Plus, it gives farmers confidence they're starting the season with the best possible foundation for a successful harvest.
